Local government units are implementing stringent contact tracing measures following the detection of additional Delta variant cases and local transmission in the country, the Department of Health said yesterday.

As of July 22, the country recorded 47 Delta variant cases – 36 have recovered, three died, and eight active.

Of the total number, 24 are returning overseas Filipinos while the 23 others are local cases.

“We still have to receive the complete reports of these contact tracing efforts, but local governments are doing their contact tracing right now,” DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said during an online media briefing.

Among the local cases, six are from Region 3, two from Calabarzon, two from Region 6, six from Region 10, and seven from the National Capital Region.

About 76 percent of the Delta variant cases are aged 14 to 79 years and are males.

“As for the vaccination status, two cases received two doses of Covid-19 vaccine, four cases received one dose while 18 cases were confirmed not to be vaccinated while the vaccination status of the remaining cases is currently being verified,” Vergeire said.

The additional 12 cases reported on Thursday were all tagged as recovered.

Their ages range from 19 to 58 years old and nine are males. Their vaccination statuses are under verification.

The DOH said the additional 12 Delta variant cases are all local cases – six from Bataan, two from Laguna, one from Manila, two from Pasig, and one from Taguig.

“We’re coordinating with the local governments to prevent the spread of variants of concern, specifically the Delta variant,” Vergeire said.

She added that the government is implementing all strategies to contain the local transmission and keep it from becoming a community transmission.

RECOVERIES

Meanwhile, the overall tally of Covid-19 recoveries nationwide rose to 1,455,137, after 2,230 new recovered cases were reported yesterday.

The DOH said the figure was equivalent to a 94.7-percent recovery rate among those who contracted the disease since last year.

The DOH also reported that the death toll stays at 26,891 as no new fatality was recorded.

Another 6,845 new cases were reported, bringing the total number of active cases in the country to 55,069.

Of the active cases, 93.4 percent are mild, 1.3 percent asymptomatic, 2.3 percent severe, 1.60 percent moderate, and 1.4 percent in critical condition.

“The zero deaths reported today is due to the current issues with COVIDKaya. This is currently being investigated with the Department of Information and Communications Technology and a resolution is expected in the next few days,” the DOH said.

It added that 11 duplicates were removed from the total case count as six of these are recoveries.

Moreover, three cases were found to have tested negative and have been removed from the total case count.

The DOH data showed that, on July 21, about 12.3 percent of 43,668, who were tested, turned out positive for Covid-19.

All laboratories were operational on July 21 while two laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

Based on data in the last 14 days, the two non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 0.4 percent of samples tested and 1.2 percent of positive individuals.

To date, 52 percent of 3,500 intensive care unit beds, 48 percent of 19,400 isolation beds, 44 percent of 12,100 ward beds, and 36 percent of 2,800 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use nationwide.*PNA
