Fear initially hindered him from telling the truth regarding the gruesome murders of his relatives, whose decomposing bodies were found in their compound at Gardenville Subdivision in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City Wednesday morning.

But Christian Tulot, 39, of Brgy. Malaabang in Concepcion town, Iloilo, said he was stricken by his conscience, and confessed yesterday that he actually witnessed how his relatives were hammered to death right in front him.

Tulot pointed to his uncle, Joel Espinosa, the brother of victims Jocelyn Nombre, 59, and Gemma Espinosa, 69, and one “alias Bro” as the ones responsible for the killing.

CONFESSION

Assisted by a lawyer, Tulot made an extrajudicial confession at the Bacolod Hall of Justice and narrated how the victims were hammered to death.

In his interview with the media, Tulot recalled that he arrived at the house of Nombre at about 9 a.m. on Easter Sunday and found Joel and Bro having a drinking spree with victim John Michael, 35, at the compound.

A few minutes later, John Michael and “Bro” quarreled because the former allegedly failed to settle P35,000 with the latter over an alleged illegal drugs transaction, he said.

Tulot said “Bro” hit John Michael in the head with a hammer after the altercation.

Hearing the commotion, Jocelyn came out, and she, too, was hit with the hammer in the head by “Bro” while Joel held her hands. Jemma was killed later inside a hut behind the compound, Tulot claimed.

Tulot said the victims tried but failed to seek help, adding that he left the house later for fear of his life.

SIX-YEAR-OLD, TOO

Asked why the 6-year-old daughter of Michael was not spared, Tulot said he had no idea that the suspects killed her, too.

Charges for possession of illegal drugs were filed yesterday against Tulot, after the police seized five sachets of suspected shabu when he was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Salvador Benedicto.

P/Major Joerey Puerto, Station 8 chief, said they are now preparing the affidavits so they can file murder charges against Tulot, Joel Espinosa, and “alias Bro”.

Puerto said it is farfetched to make Tulot a witness because circumstances showed that he also had participation in the crime.

He said there was no confession on the part of Joel, who was apprehended yesterday, adding that he was difficult to talk to.

Puerto admitted that they are at a loss as to the background and real identity of “alias Bro”, and their investigation continues.

AUTOPSIES

The bodies were also autopsied to ascertain if they only sustained head injuries when they were hammered or if they also had hack wounds.

Seaman Jonel Nombre, husband of Jocelyn, said in a radio interview, that he does not believe that Joel could do that to his relatives even if he and his nephew, Michael, had previous misunderstandings.

He said Tulot had an axe to grind against his wife because she always scolded him for bringing friends and sometimes women to the house. The last time he saw his wife was when he came home on Holy Week, adding that he will press charges against Tulot.*
