The highly-urbanized Bacolod City and Negros Occidental have been categorized as Covid-19 “low risk” areas in Western Visayas by the Department of Health-6, following a reduction in the average daily attack rate and Covid-19 growth cases.

A DOH-6 report said the Covid-19 average daily attack rate drastically dropped from 6.53 per 100,000 population of Negros Occidental, for the April 20 to May 3 period, to 2.67 for May 4 to 17.

The Covid attack rate in Bacolod City was reduced, from 11.36 to 6.39 for the same period, leading to the downgrading of its risk classification, from moderate to low.

Last month, Negros Occidental was classified as Covid-19 high risk area.

As of May 17, Negros Occidental reported 1,589 active cases, from its peak of 2,437 on May 9, while Bacolod City logged 1,002 active cases. While the DOH-6 said Western Visayas has been categorized as Covid-19 low risk area, the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force is seeking the concurrence of the National IATF of its approved resolution to implement a week-long travel moratorium between Negros and Panay.*
