City hospitals get bulk

BY ADRIAN P. NEMES III

Additional 8,400 doses of  China-made Sinovac Coronavirus 2019 vaccines intended for  hospital front liners arrived in Bacolod City Saturday.

Emergency Operations Center Executive Director, Em Ang, who is also the city administrator, yesterday said that once all the hospital frontliners have been inoculated, other health workers will be the next priority.

This includes health workers from clinics, the City Health office and medical laboratories, among others, Ang said.

The additional Sinovac vaccines that arrived on Saturday was on top of the 6,300 doses which the city received two weeks ago, she said.

Dr. Chris Sorongon, EOC Deputy for Data and Medical Analysis, said at least 2,315 medical frontliners, who are below 60-years-old were inoculated with the Sinovac vaccines as of last week.

Sorongon earlier said 1,600 doses of Sinovac vaccines were turned over to the provincial government of Negros Occidental, which was used in the ceremonial vaccination last week.

Meanwhile, several baranggay health workers and doctors who are above 60 years old were vaccinated using the British-Swedish AstraZeneca vaccines on  Saturday.

Inoculated were City Health Office Medical Officer III Dr. Benjamin Gonzaga, former Medico-Legal Officer Dr. Joseph Eli Cong, Dr. Joyce Socorro Cong, who were the first recipients of AstraZeneca vaccines at the lobby of the Bacolod Government Center, Ang said.

Also vaccinated using AstraZeneca were baranggay health workers Annabelle Regaelro, Suzette Ayco, Rufina Arceña, Virginia Magbanua and Excelsa Landera, she said.

The BHW were inoculated  by Dr. Grace Tan, Dr. Anna Anna Maria Laarni Pornan, Dr. Nica Martinez Locsin, Dr. Claire Capiral and nurse Sarah Soliguen.

Ang noted that none of those who were vaccinated using AstraZenca felt adverse effects after immunization.

Bacolod received 3,120 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines  donated by Covax on Friday, and Ang said that more of these jabs are expected to be delivered in Bacolod.*
