The Bacolod City government will start releasing today food assistance to drivers and other sectoral groups, whose livelihood have been affected after the city was placed under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), from Sept. 8 to 30.

Butch Soliguen, executive assistant for Barangay Affairs, said yesterday that they have prepared about 35,000 food packs to be distributed today to jeepney, tricycle and trisikad drivers, starting with the numbered barangays of the city.

The distribution will be facilitated by the barangay captains.

Soliguen advised the barangay captains to distribute the food packs right away since there are packs of noodles that will expire next month while the expiration date for canned goods will be in 2023.

If there are extra food packs left, these will be distributed to other poor sectors, he said. Soliguen said jeepney drivers participating in the “libre sakay (free ride)” program of the city can not avail of the food packs.*
