Chicken prices down

BY ADRIAN P. NEMES III

Prices of broiler chicken in Negros Occidental including Bacolod City, have drastically reduced by P2 per kilo as of Monday, a report from the Provincial Veterinary Office showed yesterday.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said that the reduction in the prices of broiled chicken was triggered by the decrease in  supply to the markets, adding that another cause was  the depopulation caused by local growers.

As of now, Decena said, the vacuum left by local growers is being filled by the national integrators.

Based on the monitoring conducted by the PVO, the price of broiler chicken is now at P182 per kilo from P185 last week while native chicken remained at P253 per kilo.

Pork prices showed a slight decrease of almost P1 per kilo as it is now sold for P228 from P229 previously, the same with beef prices as it now costs  P228 from P229, Decena said.

As to the prices of other livestock products, carabao beef and chevron or goat meat they are still at P268 and P338 per kilo, respectively, he said.

Meanwhile, small eggs are now being sold at P6.50 per piece, medium eggs at P7.31, large eggs- P7.99, Extra Large-P8.85 and salted eggs-P12.99.*
