As part of its modernization program to pave the way for cashless transactions, Vallacar Transit Inc., operator of Ceres buses, will implement an automated fare collection system using a tap card starting June 14.
Jade Seballos, VTI media relations officer, said they will provide the tap cards for free to passengers of Ceres buses plying the Bacolod-Victorias route, as its pilot itinerary.
Seballos said the tap card will bear the passenger’s account number and this can be reloaded at the Ceres North Terminal. The system will also be implemented in other routes following its launch at the Bacolod-Victorias route next week.
Before its implementation, an information drive will be conducted at the bus terminal to make the public aware of the innovation, she said.
The new cashless system is expected to reduce crime incidence, such as hold-up, and provide passengers convenience in paying for their fares, Seballos added.*
