San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza suggested to the provincial government of Negros Occidental yesterday to formulate a roadmap on renewable energy as Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson agreed to the creation of an Energy Council.
The roadmap aims to make a transition on the use of renewable energy, Alminaza said.
Lacson, who met yesterday with Alminaza and former Gov. Rafael Coscolluela, said the provincial government is committed to form the Energy Council, adding that some of its members will be tapped from the private sector.
Alminaza proposed that the membership of the Council will be composed of various stakeholders and experts in the field.
He is also proposing an energy summit, where the roadmap for renewable energy will be formulated.
Alminaza said that Lacson promised to come up with members of the Energy Council in two weeks time. As to the proposed setting up of a coal-fired power plant in San Carlos City by San Miguel Corporation, Alminaza said this will no longer push through because the company is trying to look into natural gas as a source of energy.*
