The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is urging government employees and residents to consider buying local products, visiting local destinations, and dining in local cafés and restaurants to help in the recovery of the tourism industry of the city.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Israel Salanga, said most of the tourism accommodation establishments, such as restaurants and cafés, including destinations in the city, have been closing down due to scarcity of tourists and the stoppage of air and sea travel, to and from the city.

Recently, some restaurants and cafés started opening up but on limited capacity, the resolution said.

These local establishments are still in deep competition with international restaurant brands which are getting a lot of local customers, the resolution added.

International restaurant brands will continue to survive even with little support from residents, unlike local establishments, it said.

“The Bacolod sanggunian is appealing to all residents and government employees to help support local products and establishments so we can recover and heal as one,” Salanga added.*CGS
