The body of an 8-year-old boy, who went swimming and drowned Sunday at the Himamaylan River in Barangay 3, Himamaylan City in Negros Occidental, was found at about 7:35 a.m. yesterday.

The boy was identified by his kin as Jerome Gaguan, Lt. Comm. Jansen Benjamin, Philippine Coast Guard-Negros Occidental head, said.

The body was found by residents under the Laguay Bridge, about 500 meters away from where he had been swimming, Benjamin said, adding the PCG was asked to bring the remains to Soledad funeral home.

Investigation showed that Gaguan went swimming alone in the river at about 3 p.m. Sunday and he may have been carried away by a strong current after a heavy rain, Benjamin said.

Responding personnel of the Himamaylan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office noted no signs of foul play but of drowning on the body.*
