The Bureau of Customs-Post Clearance Audit Group generated P287 million in customs duties and taxes in the first three months of 2021*

The Bureau of Customs-Post Clearance Audit Group generated an additional P287,036,700.02 in customs duties and taxes for the 1st quarter of 2021, through intensified post clearance audit efforts, its press release said.

The PCAG said the additional revenue was collected from 51 Prior Disclosure Program applications filed with the office, accounting for P258,363,867.77 of the revenue collected, and from demand letters issued to importers amounting to P28,672,832.25, after the post-clearance audit. Thirteen filed PDP applications were also approved during the period, while four were denied the continuation of audit.

The PCAG said it remains optimistic that additional revenues may still be generated for the remaining months of the year as 57 new Audit Notice Letters have, so far, been issued in 2021. There were also 13 final demand letters issued to importers, amounting to P7,145,789,073.15, that remain unpaid and for referral to the Bureau’s Legal Service for filing of corresponding collection suit, the press release said.

The BOC-PCAG assured the public that it remains steadfast to its commitment of protecting government revenue through intensified post clearance audit efforts. The PCAG continues its vigilance with enhanced risk-based profiling of importers and the conduct of post clearance audit to determine if fines and penalties shall be imposed on errant importers found to have committed violations of the CMTA and other customs rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, the BOC recently organized an inter-port coordination forum with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Philippine Postal Corporation to strengthen border protection initiatives.

Customs, Philpost, and Interdiction processes, operations, and best practices were presented during the forum to ensure the smooth inter-port and inter-agency coordination during the conduct of anti-illegal drugs operations.

The forum was attended by NAIA district collector Carmelita Talusan, POM district collector Michael Angelo Vargas, Central Mail Exchange Center acting subport collector Mark Almase, Customs Postal Office chief Zaldy Almoradie, PDEA NAIA-IADITG deputy commander Gerald Javier, Philpost managers Donabel Asunsion and Roger Tumblos, CMEC and Customs Portal Office examiners, among others.

Talusan said the forum was in line with the directives of Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero on the intensified campaign against smuggling, and was part of Port of NAIA’s continued inter-port assistance and coordination to further strengthen border protection.

Vargas said that the forum was initiated to boost the anti-smuggling and border security efforts of BOC and enhance coordination with partner agencies.*
