Five Sanman fighters, including bantamweight Aston “Mighty” Palicte of Bago City in Negros Occidental, all scored technical knockout victories against respective opponents in “The Restart” boxing promotion at the Sanman Boxing Gym in General Santos City Saturday night.

Palicte needed only two rounds to beat Reymark Taday of Cotabato for his 27th victory in 32 fights.

Super featherweight Marlon “Nightmare” Tapales of Lanao del Norte led his team’s onslaught with an impressive second round stoppage of Eden Sonsona of General Santos City in the main event.

The 28-year-old Tapales downed Sonsona twice in the first round and three times in the next round, prompting the referee to stop the fight that improved Tapales’ ring record to 34 wins with 17 knockouts against three defeats.

It was Tapales’ comeback win since his 11th TKO defeat to Ryosuke Iwasa of Japan for the interim International Boxing Federation World super bantamweight title at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, USA on Dec. 7, 2019.

Palicte, undefeated Dave “Dobermann” Apolinario of Sarangani, featherweight Michael Casama, and minimumweight Joey Canoy of General Santos City also won via technical knockouts.

The 21-year-old Apolinario knocked down Bonjun Loperez of Davao City in the first round before pulling out TKO win in the fifth round to improve his unblemished record to 14 wins with nine knockouts.

Canoy connected solid punches that forced Jovab Lucas of Sarangani not to continue the fight after the end of third round. Canoy, 27, now has 16 wins with nine knockouts against four defeats and one draw.

It was also the same story for Casama, who also forced Vergel Deguma of General Santos City not to answer the bell for round two.

Casama, 20, remained undefeated with six wins all by knockout.

The event was presented by Jim Claude Manangquil of the Sanman Boxing Promotion and the only second bubble boxing tourney since the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic hit the country early this year.*PNA
