An estimated 3,120 doses of AstraZenica Covid-19 vaccines donated by Covax arrived in Bacolod City yesterday.

Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical and data analysis of the Emergency Operations Center for data and medical analysis, said this is intended for staff members of four hospitals in the city.

Sorongon said the recipients will be both medical and non-medical workers of Bacolod Adventist Medical Center, the Bacolod Doctor’s Hospital, the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital and the government-run Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

He, however, did not divulge as to how many doses each hospitals will be getting but he said the vaccines are not yet the ones that were purchased by the city using a portion of the P300 million earlier allotted for the covid-19 vaccination program.

Bacolod purchased a total of 650,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines and is also in negotiation with the pharmaceutical firm for an additional 150,000 doses.

Mayor Evelio Leoardia said that the vaccines purchased by the city will be delivered by the second quarter of the year, adding that, the vaccines that arrived yesterday are for senior citizen front-liners.

Leonardia said he is thankful that vaccination czar Joselito Galvez fulfilled his promise to prioritize Bacolod whenever the vaccines are already available.

Meanwhile, 1,909 hospital staff members in Bacolod have been vaccinated using the China-made Sinovac Covid 19 vaccines as of yesterday, records from the EOC showed.

Sorongon said that they hope to inoculate about 400 more health workers using Sinovac by the end of the week. He said that the city only had 4,700 doses of Sinovac vaccines remaining.

Sorongon added that the 1,600 vaccines that arrived last week in the city had  already been given to the provincial government on orders of the Regional Department of Health which were utilized during the ceremonial inoculation on Thursday.*
