Arrested rebel leader linked to soldier’s slay

BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Arrested rebel leader Adidas Acero was also linked by the Philippine Army to the murder of Cpl. Mark Anthony Quiocson, a member of the 62nd Infantry Battalion, almost two months ago in Brgy. Luz, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

As the vice commander of the Leonardo Panaligan Command, Acero is also liable for the death of Quiocson, Army regional spokesman Maj. Cenon Pancito III said yesterday.

The rebel group had earlier claimed responsibility for the death of Quiocson.

Acero and Nona Espinosa, deputy secretary of the Central Negros Front 1 of the Komiteng Rehiyonal Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor, and seven others were arrested last week in Brgy. Buenavista, Guihulngan City. Their arrest yielded assorted firearms and explosives.

Acero and Espinosa were also linked to the ambush-slay of then PSupt. Arnel Arpon, former Guihulngan City police chief, and five of his men in 2017.

Pancito said that 200 live ammunitions for AK 47 assault rifle, one meter detonating cord with firing device, subversive documents, identification cards and other personal documents of late Cpl. Quiocson, had been buried in Sitio Ilijan, Brgy. Buenavista, Guihulngan City and were recovered Wednesday by 62IB soldiers based on the revelations of Acero.

In his issued statement, Major Gen. Eric Vinoya, 3ID commander, said that the discovery of war materials and personal documents is a big help for authorities in identifying the responsible individuals behind the murder of Quicson.

“Aside from pinpointing the perpetrators, this will likewise help us in filing additional charges against the murderers,” Vinoya said.*
