Another member of the New People’s Army gave up the armed struggle and surrendered a .45 caliber pistol to the 94th Infantry Battalion in Tayasan, Negros Oriental recently, the military said.
The surrender of Juvic Arcade, alias Bro, 46, to the 94IB, was facilitated by Tanlad barangay chairman Wilson Pacheco.
Lt. Col. Angelo Guzman, 94IB commander, said Arcade used to be a member of the NPA Regional Strike Force (RSF), and admitted to have participated in the harassment of the 94IB Community Support Team in Brgy. Buenavista, Himamaylan City, on Nov. 11 this year.
Guzman said Arcade decided to leave the CPP-NPA, when his comrades at the RSF started planning an ambush against CSP team members, who are helping a community, where his family members and relatives are residing.
Guzman lauded the decision of Arcade to abandon the armed struggle.*GPB
