A group of unidentified armed men shot and killed a businessman Wednesday night at Crossing Maoy in Brgy. Camindangan, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.

The police identified the victim as Noli Talabon of Zone 5, Brgy. 2, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.

Investigations of the Sipalay police showed that Talabon, 43, was having a drinking spree with his cousin and brother-in-law in the presence of his wife in front of his house when three unidentified suspects, armed with M16 and M14 rifles and wearing bonnets, suddenly appeared and shot him without any provocation.

The victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, including a fatal injury in the head, the police said.

Recovered at the crime scene were 11 fired cartridges of M16 and M14 assault rifles and 12 gauge shotgun, and a live ammunition.

Three other armed companions of the suspects were also reported to have served as back-ups of Talabon’s assailants.

The motive for the shooting incident is still being established by the Sipalay City Police Station.

Meanwhile, two suspects in a stabbing incident, identified by the police as Mon Albert Conilas and Cenon Salosa, were arrested in Brgy. Sibucao, San Enrique on Wednesday.

Conilas and Salosa were tagged as suspects in the stabbing of Joefry Tamayo, who is now being treated for his stab injuries at a hospital in Bacolod City.

Two bladed weapons were also recovered by the police from the two suspects, who are now in jail.*
