Another shooting incident claimed the life of a 48-year-old drug surrenderer in Purok Sigay, Barangay 2 in Bacolod City, at about 7 last night.

The victim, who was identified as Norman Sola, alias “Bongbong Kalas”, of the barangay, sustained three to four gunshot wounds and was declared dead on arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, P/Capt. Leo Estopa, Station 2 chief, said.

Police Investigation showed that Sola and three companions just came from a store and were on their way home when an unidentified woman approached him and then the gunman appeared and shot him, Estopa said.

He said the three companions of Sola and the woman were still unidentified and the residents were uncooperative with the police.

The gunman, meanwhile, escaped on foot.

Estopa said Sola surrendered during the Police Oplan Tokhang last year, adding that they are still checking if he had previous police records.

The police could not determine the motive for the shooting, but among the possible angles are personal grudges and illegal drugs. Several empty shells were recovered at the crime scene, Estopa added.

It was the second fatal shooting incident in the purok this month, the first one was on August 21, when a driver was also gunned down by a still unidentified killer.*
