More than half a million pesos in livelihood assistance was received by a group of farmer beneficiaries in Brgy. Alangilan, Bacolod City from the Department of Agrarian Reform Monday.
DAR Assistant Regional Director for Western Visayas Lucrecia Taberna led the distribution of P270,000 in poultry and livestock feeds supply and P405,0000 in Seed Capital allowance.
The recipients were the members of the Benez Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Farmers Association.
The assistance given to the farmers is under the Convergence on Livelihood Assistance for Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Project of the agency which is in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Services that aims to augment farmers’ income.
Aside from that, the farmer beneficiaries also received capacity development trainings and Agri-Extension Services for Vegetable Production through the Agrarian Reform Community Connectivity and Economic Support Services.
DAR Region 6, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and the Local Government Unit of Bacolod City also launched the Buhay sa Gulay Project for the members of the Benez Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Farmers Association.
Alfredo Padronia, president of the Farmers group, said they are elated that among the many farmer-beneficiaries associations in the province, it was theirs that was chosen by DAR to be the recipients of various projects.
Meanwhile, Taberna lauded the activity, saying that agriculture especially planting vegetables, is a sound response to the current pandemic.
She said that the “Buhay sa Gulay” project was formulated by DAR Secretary, John Castriciones in order to help the farmers have sure buyers of their products.
DAR Region 6 Director, Sheila Enciso reminded the farmers to be responsible in utilizing the providence that DAR was able to deliver.*
