Troopers of the 79th Infantry Battalion help in hauling the relief goods for flood affected families in the cities of Victorias, Sagay, and Escalante*

More than 1,000 families in the cities of Victorias, Sagay, and Escalante in Negros Occidental availed of humanitarian assistance from the Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command, in tandem with the GMA Kapuso Foundation- Cebu, and Landers Superstore.

Maj. Eduardo Precioso, Centcom Public Information Office chief, said the relief goods, including assorted canned goods, rice, noodles and used clothing, were transported by the Naval Forces Central and Task Group CBS, and distributed by the 79th Infantry Battalion troops stationed in Negros Occidental.

With the help of the Cebu provincial government, partner stakeholders and volunteers, Precioso said that Centcom also extended humanitarian assistance to residents of Catanduanes and Camarines Sur, who were affected by the typhoon.

Lt. Gen. Roberto Ancan, Centcom chief, said they are always ready to respond to the call not only in the Visayas, but in other regions of the country, who are in need of their help. “As peacemakers in the Visayas, we do not only pursue our primary role on securing communities, but we also extend help to our people in times of natural calamities,” Ancan, who is a native of Victorias City, Negros Occidental, said in a statement.*
