Dumaguete City Department of Education Division superintendent, Gregorio Cyrus Elejorde, recently introduced the so-called Academic Panda to ensure limited physical interaction between and among students and teachers amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a meeting with Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and members of the City Inter-Agency Task Force, he said that this type of application takes its cue from the Food Panda service that allows residents to order food and supplies from the comfort and safety of their homes.

“Academic Panda” will allow stakeholders to select from the school any services, like school forms, learning materials and others via mobile applications and through websites, Elejorde said.

He said to ease the fears of Covid-19 transmission, learning will now be through pure online, modular or blended instructions and assessment. The Academic Panda of the schools processes and sends orders directly to concerned stakeholders, he added.

Elejorde also said there were 22,483 elementary and high school enrollees, to date, and a significant number of students from private schools opted to transfer to public schools in Dumaguete.*
