4 soldiers awarded gallantry medals

Four enlisted personnel of the 11th Infantry Battalion were awarded with Gold Cross Medals for gallantry in action Thursday, in connection with the campaign against the New People’s Army in Negros Oriental.

Negrense Lt. Gen. Roberto Ancan, commanding general of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command, led the awarding rites at the 11th Infantry Battalion headquarters in Siaton, Negros Oriental.

The Gold Cross Medal recipients are Corporals Dennis Enalao, Raymundo Tanilon and Richard Rafols, and PFC Ramer Maceda, all members of the 11IB.

Ancan also conferred Plaques of Kapayapaan on the 302nd Infantry Brigade, under the leadership of Col. Leonardo Peña, and the 11IB, for successfully dismantling the South East Front of the Komiteng Rehiyonal-Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor.

The 11IB also received the AFP Central Command streamer for exemplary performance that significantly contributed to the attainment of the mission of AFP in the Visayas, and also in bringing peace and development to southern Negros.

Ancan, a native of Victorias City in Negros Occidental, used to serve as junior officer of the 11IB, and deployed in Brgy. Burgos in Cadiz City, from 1988 to 1991.

Before his visit to the 11IB, Ancan also visited the 303rd Infantry Brigade headquarters in Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia, where he was welcomed by Col. Inocencio Pasaporte, his staff, and personnel of the brigade.

Ancan lauded the contribution of the 303IB in making Negros Island peaceful, and free from violent activities of the NPA.

The visit aims to boost the morale of soldiers, promote utmost sense of discipline in line with the Army Transformation Roadmap, and motivate troops to pursue “Bayanihan”, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.*GPB
