Fourteen police personnel assigned at the Himamaylan City Police Station and 10 inmates tested positive for Covid-19, the Philippine National Police reported yesterday.
The first batch of six Himamaylan City police personnel, including police chief, Lt. Col. Romeo Vargas, tested positive on May 19, followed by eight others and a police civilian employee on May 25.
Ten inmates at the custodial facility of the Himamaylan CPS were also infected with the virus, the PNP also said.
Vargas was temporarily replaced by Lt. Col. Norberto Barniso as officer-in-charge of the Himamaylan CPS, pending his full recovery.
All the infected police personnel and inmates are now quarantined in isolation facilities. The PNP Health Service also recorded 233 new cases and 70 recoveries all over the country yesterday.*
