BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Two persons died in a shooting incident Sunday in Sitio Huebisan, Brgy. Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, with the suspect managing to escape despite hack injuries.

The fatalities were identified by the police as Jemar Jemida, 34, of Brgy. Marcelo, and Roberto Sanopao Jr, 32, of Sitio Olongan, all in Calatrava.

Investigation of the Calatrava police showed that both victims were resting inside the sari-sari store of Lemlem Contiga when the suspect, identified as Jerone Baynosa, 24, who was armed with gun, arrived.

Without any provocation, Baynosa, shot Jemida twice on the head and his side, police said.

Sanopao, who tried to pacify and disarm Baynosa, fell on the ground and was also shot by the suspect twice on the chest, the Calatrava police said.

Roberto Sanopao Sr., father of one of the victims, responded to the incident and hacked Baynosa, who sustained wounds in the right side of his body.

Baynosa also tried to shoot the elder Sanopao but his gun did not fire. This prompted him to flee despite his injuries.

Both the younger Sanopao and Jemida were declared dead on arrival at the Calatrava District Hospital while Baynosa remained at large as of press time, the police said.

The motive of the incident has not been established yet by the Calatrava Police Station.*
