BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Policemen and Bantay Dagat members arrested 11 fishermen and five minors for illegal fishing at the Sagay Marine Reserve Area in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, Wednesday night.

Intercepted were six fishing boats with 16 crewmembers, all residents of Sitio Mocabog, Brgy. Washington in Escalante City, and identified as Roger Japitana, Argie and Angelito Revamonte, Dennis Gargar, Rodel, Rodolfo, and John Paul, all surnamed Amante, Bryan and Maysol Mingasca, Loyd Prietos, Argie Bayadog, Renante Solitario, Romel Bayadog, and the five minors, whose identities were withheld by the police.

Recovered from them were 20 kilos of assorted fish, with a market value of about P3,000, and six fishing boats. The campaign against illegal fishing at the Sagay marine sanctuary by Bantay Dagat is ongoing, to preserve the area from poachers.*
