An additional 10,000 doses of China-made Sinovac vaccines are expected to arrive in Bacolod City today.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia lauded Department of Health Region 6 director, Emilia Monicimpo, for her quick response to their appeal for additional vaccines to be delivered to Bacolod due to the increasing number of Covid cases in the City.

Leonardia, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, who heads the local Inter-Agency Task Force, and Emergency Operations Center executive director Em Ang met with Monicimpo yesterday.

As of yesterday, 37,052 doses of Sinovac and British-Swedish AstraZeneca vaccines have been utilized in the vaccination rollout in Bacolod.

Leonardia said that the additional 10,000 doses “is a big boost to advance our march towards the full vaccination of our people.”

He also stressed that he is not keen on seeking another lockdown despite the ballooning number of Covid cases in the city.

Echoing the sentiments of members of the Philippine Society of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Leonardia said that what the City needs now is the cooperation of the people to deter the spread of the disease. The mayor said stricter quarantine status will be the last recourse of the city government just in case the situation worsens.*
