One of 28 employees of the Bacolod Queen of Mercy Hospital in Bacolod City tested positive for COVID-19, BQMH medical director, Dr. John Alejano, said yesterday.

The 27 other staff members had negative Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test results, he said.

The staff were tested for the virus after a visiting physician tested positive for COVID-19 after he was exposed to a patient, who misdeclared his health status, Alejano said.

The patient tested positive for COVID-19.

Alejano said the BQMH staff who tested positive was probably infected in a community in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City.

The infection control committee reinvestigated and the patient is low risk, he said.

The conclusion was concurred in by their infectious disease consultant, he added.

The hospital’s outpatient department was closed for disinfection during the weekend.

It will reopen as soon as the staff reports back from quarantine and a consultant is available to see patients in the OPD, he added.*
