The nation’s total number of recovered coronavirus disease 2019 cases has reached 1,210,027, with 7,854 more recoveries reported yesterday.

In its latest case bulletin, the Department of Health noted that recoveries account for 94.1 percent of the country’s total case count which has reached 1,286,217 since the start of the pandemic last year.

The agency also reported 5,462 new cases, bringing the total number of active infections to 54,000.

About 92.6 percent of these active cases were mild, 3 percent asymptomatic, 1.4 percent critical, 1.8 percent severe, and 1.22 percent were moderate.

Some 126 new deaths were also reported, pushing the country’s total number of Covid-19 fatalities to 22,190, or 1.73 percent of the total cases.

According to DOH data on June 7, about 12.6 percent of 39,788 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

“Some 18 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and of these, 14 were recovered cases. Moreover, 70 cases that were previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

All laboratories were operational on June 7 while eight laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

The DOH noted the eight non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 2.1 percent of samples tested, and 2.7 percent of positive individuals based on data in the last 14 days.

To date, 58 percent of 1,900 intensive care unit beds, 49 percent of 13,600 isolation beds, 49 percent of 6,000 ward beds, and 38 percent of 2,000 ventilators are utilized by Covid patients nationwide.*PNA
